What Makes Our Dog Park Different? Transparency

What makes us different than other dog daycare and boarding facilities? While there are many differences we were founded to focus on, transparency is one of the biggest ones. Transparency is key when it comes to pet care, because it’s important to feel comfortable and informed about your best furriend. Pets are like family members and it’s disheartening to hear what sometimes happens behind closed doors at other facilities.

If you watch the news stories about other pet care facilities when they have incidents, you might notice that when something bad happens, it always seems to be in an area that’s off camera or the cameras stopped at just the wrong time. We have a policy of no closed doors and no rooms without cameras, plus our cameras never stop rolling. We can always review footage when an incident occurs, so that we can carefully evaluate what went wrong. You may notice that the front of our building also has a bunch of big, open windows.

We also perform all of our social evaluations in front of everyone. We are not doing anything that we need to hide or be ashamed of doing. We let you watch the whole time and we’re happy to talk about why we do what we’re doing throughout the process. Our members actually love to come play during social evals, because they’re so excited to meet the new pack members. We think that that speaks to the volume of trust they have with us and what we are doing.

Because we’re an open door facility, we don’t keep pet parents out of the loop. Some businesses only allow curb pickups and don’t want their human clients to see the conditions of their crates, play areas, and more. This may be due to poor supervision (some rely only on cameras), lack of hygiene, and anything else they’d want to hide. We don’t have anything to hide. Everything we have at the park was specially chosen for dog safety and comfort. Every detail from our play-friendly floors to our non-abrasive cleaning products and our dog incident tools are chosen carefully.

We’re also happy to display how we treat all dogs at our facility, including those here for boarding, who get to enjoy plenty of play time, affection, indoor and outdoor space, and more. They’re never kept in their crates for long periods of time, and NEVER all day, like some facilities do. They’re only used for breaks and when wanted by the dog.

Because of our transparency, we do have some negative reviews about our social evals. These are based on preexisting fears from the humans involved, and they usually occur when the dog is more nervous. In this case, we say they’re in need of “park readiness.” This just means that we will work to meet a nervous dog where they’re at, going slow to ensure a comfortable introduction to the team and the pack. We don’t believe in fully turning a dog away if they don’t fit the mold. When working on park readiness, our team will help your dog settle in, giving them more time to adjust and what they need to feel comfortable before joining our park as a member.

We’re the most proud of the pawrents of our readiness dogs, because they love their dogs enough to give them the extra care they need. They agree not to force them to be comfortable before they are ready, or to give up on them socializing properly.

  • We have used Working for Wags twice now, one for an overnight stay and this last time for a week long vacation. I am nervous leaving our pups; it helps a lot knowing they are in our home and not in a kennel. The communication was fabulous both times. I loved receiving pictures of our pups while we were away! Isabel was amazing! I have one pup who can be particular with people; she warmed right up to Isabel! We will definitely use Working for Wags in the future!   • We’re so incredibly happy to have found a company and truly genuine people to watch our dogs. We have 3 dogs and we’ve never been able to travel without them unless a family member could help out. Ali, with Working for Wags, was the most incredible sitter! She watched them overnight for 4 nights and even spent a little extra time with them the day we were flying back in. She also helped with a very last minute house issue, which saved the day! The entire process was super professional and friendly, communication was seamless, and we will only be using Working for Wags, moving forward. A huge shout out to Ali!

  • We had a great first experience with Working for Wags! They came to our house to feed our two pups for several days while we were on vacation. Following their visits, they sent us updates by text and pictures by email, both which were greatly appreciated. They also helped us try to troubleshoot some odd behavior from our dogs, which turned out to be related to a smoke alarm that required battery replacement and was scaring the pups. Overall, we had a very positive experience and will definitely use Working for Wags again when we are out of town. :-)

  • Everyone from Wags from supper friendly, they are very detailed and communicate super well. Ocean took amazing care of our babies, she also sent frequent updates and pictures that we loved. We will definitely call wags everytime we are away.

  • Angela did such an awesome job with our dogs! This was the first time we have left our dogs in a very long time due to 2 of the 3 being elderly and needing extra care. Angela was very attentive to their needs. We never had to worry about how they were doing because she would send updates via texts with pictures several times a day. Angela also brought up the mail and took care of garbage. I think the house was cleaner when we came home than when we left. I would not hesitate to have Angela back to watch out furry babies.
